Euranet covers events in Europe from a transnational point of view. Euranet offers a pan-European treatment of information about European affairs, covering both EU institutions and individual member states. 16 international, national, regional and local European broadcasters from 13 EU countries joined forces to create a pan-European media consortium on 25 July 2007. This comprises both public and private broadcasters.

The aim of the co-operation is to improve the quality of reporting on and from Europe, and to stimulate discussion about togetherness in Europe to promote a European general public. The official presentation of the European media consortium Euranet by Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission, took place on 26 February 2008 in Brussels. As the commissioner responsible for institutional relations and communication strategy, Margot Wallström announced that Euranet would receive 5. Bulgarian, Greek, Portuguese, Romanian and Hungarian. As of July 2012, Euranet brings together 26 professional radio stations, supplemented by 10 campus radios. All of these partnerships allow coverage to be delivered to more than 20 million daily listeners in all 23 official languages of the community.

The Euranet network produces and broadcasts annually more than 2. 000 hours of EU-related news and magazines with its members adopting a co-operative and collaborative production model and bringing a transnational view to its listeners. Euranet was launched as a consortium between radio enterprises from different countries of Europe and its activity is governed by a contract of service with the European Commission, which is its only source of funding. Euranet is fully independent of any instruction, pressure or request emanating from an EU institution, a member state of the EU or of any other state or institution, concerning the content of its broadcasts and programmes on topics relating to the EU. Euranet reports on cultural, social, economic and political events in the EU from a pan-European perspective. The programmes made by Europeans for Europeans enjoy a daily air-time of between 30 and 60 minutes.
